Semex is marketed as a comprehensive semen volume and male performance supplement. Its formula includes several familiar men’s health ingredients, including zinc, maca, ashwagandha, Panax ginseng, sunflower lecithin and L-arginine.
Based on the Supplement Facts panel, Semex appears to be targeted toward general male libido rather than increasing ejaculate volume. Several ingredients are used at lower doses than those tested in clinical studies, while others have little direct human evidence connecting them to seminal-fluid production.
What is in Semex?
According to the supplied label (via Amazon), three capsules contain:

The proprietary Semex Complex proprietary blend contains sunflower lecithin, horny goat weed and bromelain. Because only the combined 550 mg amount is disclosed, it is not possible to determine the dose of each ingredient. Note that one ingredient has been censored due to supplement regulations.
Zinc: A reasonable inclusion
Zinc is one of the only relevant ingredients in Semex. It plays an established role in male reproductive function and is present in high concentrations in prostatic fluid.
In a controlled dietary study, severe zinc restriction was associated with a decline in average semen volume. This suggests that correcting zinc deficiency can benefit normal semen production. (PubMed)
Semex provides 12 mg of zinc, which is on the low end of the recommended daily intake for adult men.
The accompanying 1 mg of copper is also reasonable because prolonged high zinc intake can interfere with copper absorption. Copper itself is not an established semen volume enhancer.
L-arginine: Relevant ingredient, very small dose
L-arginine is a precursor to nitric oxide, which helps regulate blood-vessel dilation. It is commonly included in supplements for erectile function, circulation and exercise performance.
There is some research suggesting that arginine-containing combinations may influence sexual or semen-related outcomes. One study that reported improved semen parameters used approximately 3,000 mg of L-arginine aspartate daily in combination with Pycnogenol. (PubMed)
Semex contains only 60 mg of L-arginine HCl. That is a small fraction of the gram-level quantities normally used in clinical studies.
L-arginine is therefore a reasonable ingredient, but the amount in Semex is unlikely to produce a meaningful nitric-oxide or semen-volume effect.
Ashwagandha
Semex provides 300 mg of ashwagandha root. The label does not specify an extraction ratio or withanolide concentration, so it is difficult to compare directly with the standardized extracts used in research.
Maca: Better supported for libido than volume
Maca has been studied for sexual desire and some aspects of male fertility. Its research is mixed, and semen-volume results have not been especially compelling.
In a randomized study of men with infertility, 2,000 mg of maca daily improved sperm concentration but did not significantly improve semen volume compared with placebo. (PubMed)
Other research has found that maca may improve self-reported sexual desire without significantly increasing testosterone. (PubMed)
Semex contains 375 mg, substantially less than the 1,500-to-3,000-mg quantities typically examined in human studies. At this dose, maca is not helping most men with libido, let alone semen volume.
Panax ginseng: Potential sexual-health benefits, limited volume evidence
Panax ginseng is frequently used in supplements for energy, sexual function and circulation.
In one randomized fertility study, participants used 1,500 mg of Korean red ginseng daily. The controlled analysis did not find significant improvements in semen volume, sperm concentration or total sperm count. (World Journal of Men’s Health)
Semex contains 200 mg. Ginseng may still support energy or sexual function, particularly if the extract is highly concentrated, but the evidence does not support it as a semen volume ingredient.
Sunflower lecithin
Sunflower lecithin is one of the most frequently discussed semen-volume ingredients in online forums. Users report changes in volume or consistency. Lecithin supplies phospholipids, which are normal components of many tissues and bodily fluids.
Semex does not disclose the individual lecithin dose. It shares a 550 mg proprietary blend with horny goat weed and bromelain, so the amount may be considerably lower than the full blend weight.
Horny goat weed
Horny goat weed is traditionally used as an aphrodisiac. Its active compound, icariin, has shown effects related to nitric oxide and erectile physiology in laboratory and animal research. High-quality human evidence remains limited, especially for semen volume.
Questions raised by the label
The formula is not without merit, but several labeling issues make it difficult to evaluate fully.
First, the manufacturer describes Semex as “clinically dosed.” That wording appears optimistic when the amounts are compared with human research:
- L-arginine is provided at 60 mg rather than the gram-level quantities commonly studied.
- Maca is provided at 375 mg versus approximately 1,500 to 3,000 mg in many trials.
- Ashwagandha is below the 600-to-675-mg doses used in relevant reproductive studies.
- Ginseng is provided at 200 mg, compared with 1,500 mg in a major fertility trial.
- The doses of sunflower lecithin, horny goat weed and bromelain are not individually disclosed.
The marketing materials also mention saw palmetto, but saw palmetto does not appear on the supplied Supplement Facts panel. Meanwhile, bromelain appears on the label but receives little attention in the ingredient description. Consumers should generally rely on the physical Supplement Facts panel rather than promotional website copy when the two differ.
Is Semex likely to increase semen volume?
Zinc is a credible ingredient, and maca and ginseng have at least some research related to male sexual health.
The evidence is considerably less persuasive when the product is judged specifically as a semen volume supplement.
The most relevant conclusions are:
- L-arginine is included at a dose that is likely too low to have a meaningful effect.
- Maca and ginseng are below commonly studied amounts.
- Horny goat weed has no direct connection to semen volume.
- Several ingredients are more relevant to libido than seminal-fluid production.
Does Semex Work?
Semex is not an entirely baseless formula, as it contains zinc and lecithin. The issue is most of the ingredients are not scientifically proven for semen volume, and the relevant ingredients are underdosed.
Men wondering how to cum more would be better suited with a scientifically backed supplement like Load Boost, or making their own stack specifically tailored toward their needs.
